Biography
Jarryd was a dominating force on the ATP Tour in both singles and doubles for almost two decades. During his illustrious career he captured 8 singles titles and 59 doubles titles, including 8 Grand Slam doubles titles. Jarryd also won the Davis Cup, reached the World No. 1 doubles ranking and achieved a career-high singles ranking of World No. 5.
Career Highlights
In 1983, Jarryd won his first Grand Slam doubles title at the French Open, partnering with Hans Simonsson.
Jarryd reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon in singles in 1985 before being knocked-out in four sets by eventual champion Boris Becker. He attained his career high singles ranking of World No. 5 in July 1985 and the World No. 1 doubles ranking.
Jarryd won 3 of the 4 Grand Slam men’s doubles titles in 1987; the Australian Open, again partnering with Stefan Edberg; the French Open, partnering with Robert Seguso and the U.S. Open, partnering with Edberg.
In 1988, Jarryd won the men’s doubles Bronze Medal at the Olympic Games and was a member of the Swedish team which won the 1988 World Team Cup.
By winning the men’s doubles title at Wimbledon in 1989, partnering with John Fitzgerald, Jarryd earned the unique distinction of holding a career Grand Slam in doubles.
In 1991, Jarryd again captured 3 of the 4 men’s Grand Slam doubles titles, partnering with Fitzgerald to win the French Open, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.
